Acupuncture treatment session - what to expect
Your first treatment session
Vanessa will conduct a consultation to obtain a thorough understanding of your general health and lifestyle. In addition to asking questions about any current symptoms (how long you have been having the symptoms, whether they are constant or intermittent and how frequent they are), the consultation will include taking a detailed medical history, including operations and medications as well as asking about things such as your sleep pattern, appetite, digestion and emotional wellbeing. Women will also be asked about their menstrual cycle, pregnancies and childbirth.
Different diagnostic and evaluation methods will be used including: Body, Tongue and Pulse.
Acupuncture treatment will be given.
Follow up treatment sessions
These sessions follow the same pattern as the initial treatment session, although the consultation is focussed more on current symptoms, your feedback following on from your last treatment and any other changes to your circumstances.
Things to consider:
many commonly used acupuncture points are located on the lower arms and legs, so it is helpful to wear clothing that allows easy access to these areas, but be aware that other points on the abdomen, back and head may be used.
try not to go for treatment on an empty stomach or straight after a heavy meal.
do let Vanessa know if you are completely new to acupuncture, so she can take extra time to explain what happens and ensure you are comfortable with the process.
